Conditions of Entry

  1. The Dardanup Art Spectacular Awards are open to all Australian resident persons.  Artists may enter pieces in one or more categories (subject to 14. below).
  2. Category A – Any subject, any medium (except photography or digital prints)).
  3. Category B – Theme. The artist may interpret and convey the Theme either as representational, or metaphorical, or symbolic, or abstract, or in any other way the artist chooses (any medium, except photography or digital prints).
  4. Category C – PORTRAIT must be of a real person; who is known to the artist; who was living at the time the portrait was painted; and who has given written permission for their portrait to be entered and displayed at the Dardanup Art Spectacular 2017 (see website for consent form to be completed). 2D works in any media (except photography or digital prints) will be accepted.
  5. Category D —All PHOTOGRAPHY must be wholly the work of the Entrant. Only images that have not been published nationally can be entered. Photos must be 8 by 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4cm) or 8 by 12 inches  (20.3 x 30.5cm). Prints must be mat mounted using mat board (black or white mat only) and backing board and must not exceed 40x50cm, including the mount. Prints must be FIRMLY attached to mounting (No coloured mount/or framed photos will be accepted). Please ensure photos / mount sizing is correct as disqualification will occur if incorrect.
  6. Originality. All entries must be the entrant’s own original and unaided work and have been completed within the 12 months preceding the exhibition.
  7. Entrants are required to allow any artwork to be reproduced for publicity or catalogue purposes.
  8. Bank Details required for payment of prizes and sales. Entry forms may be lodged electronically and require the artist’s endorsement of conditions, and full payment before entry can be accepted. Late fees are payable for entries lodged after the closing date. Entry fees will only be refunded in full if entry is withdrawn before the closing date.
  9. Sale of works. All entries must be for sale (except for young artists where sale is optional).
  10. Commission. 20% of the catalogue listed Price.
  11. To qualify as an Emerging Dardanup artist you must be resident in the Dardanup Shire, have not been part of a major art exhibition in a commercial or public Gallery; you have not previously won an award in this category; you only occasionally sell your art; you do not teach art; and you are yet to be Nationally recognized as an artist.
  12. Secondary School Dardanup Artists must be of secondary school age and resident in the Dardanup Shire.
  13. Primary School Dardanup Artists must be of primary school age and resident in the Dardanup Shire.
  14. Number of entries. Artists may submit up to 2 entries. Artists residing in the SHIRE OF DARDANUP may submit up to 3 entries.
  15. A work may be rejected [entry fee not refunded] iF:
  • A work is not thoroughly dry;
  • A work is not ready to hang with cord, wire etc;
  • A free-standing work is not balanced and stable;
  • A work is deemed unsuitable for public exhibition.
  1. Size. Paintings, drawings and prints must be no larger than 1.2m wide x 1.2m high and suitably presented for exhibition with identification labels affixed to the back. Other works should not be larger than 2m in any direction or at the discretion of the curator. Multi-panel exhibits [diptych/triptych] must be priced and offered for sale as a unit and clearly indicated as such on the entry form. The artist must make provision for any artwork weighing more than 5kg (hang or place themselves).
  2. Insurance. All reasonable care will be taken with submitted works. The Shire or the Organizing Committee will not be responsible for loss or damage to exhibits, or for charges incurred in the delivery or return of entries. Entrants are responsible for arranging their own insurance.
  3. Ownership of unclaimed works.  All works that remains unclaimed after the closing of the exhibition become the property of Dardanup Arts Inc to be sold, or otherwise disposed of at the discretion of the Dardanup Art Spectacular Committee.

19.Proposed dates for 2018

  • Tues 27 March 2018 – Entries open
  • Wed 18 April 2018 – Entries close
  • Tuesday 1 May 2018 : Works to be delivered to the Dardanup Hall 10am-5pm
  • Fri 4 May 2018 – Exhibition Opening (7pm)
  • Sat 5 May and Sun 6 May 2018 – Exhibition in Main Hall (10am-5pm)
  • Sun 6 May 2018 – Works to be picked up (5pm-6pm) from Dardanup Hall. No works can be collected before closing time. Identification (and authorisation where applicable) will be required before works are released.
