Artist Statement

Daniel Barker

Thoughts, feelings, memories and dreams assert their influences on us in complex ways and I find painting allows me to draw upon these mysterious, intangible things and produce works that I can share with others.

In order to do so, I tend to find myself blurring the line between surrealism and abstract art. The intentionally ambiguous results can then create an opportunity for viewers to ascribe their own meanings to the works by drawing on their own experiences. It is in this way that I hope my works reach out and speak to you.
