Norton, Mahiya

Mahiya is originally from New Zealand and has now settled in Roelands. She has pursued arts and crafts throughout her life and discovered her love for carving later in life. Using only hand tools and a drill press, Mahiya carves sculptures out of New Zealand limestone, the purest and whitest limestone in the world. Consisting of millions of tiny fossils and skeletons from past creatures which have fallen to the bottom of the ocean and then compressed for 40 million years, Mother Nature graciously lifted the stone out of the ocean to be transformed into beautiful pieces. Enjoyed into perpetuity.
